The Gut-Skin Axis

The biggest revelation I had in healing my acne was understanding the gut-skin axis. The trillions of bacteria living in your gut called the gut microbiome, play a significant role in your skin's clarity, and overall health. When this delicate balance is disrupted, it can trigger inflammation throughout your body, including your skin. Through a holistic approach, you can help rebalance your gut for clearer, glowing skin.

Here are some tips to help rebalance your gut:

  1. Focus on eating the rainbow every day, prioritizing leafy greens, water-rich and sulfur-rich produce.

  2. Eat a diet rich in fiber. Fiber is SO important not just for skin health but for preventing the deterioration of the mucus barrier in your gut, which can lead to leaky gut, autoimmune disease, and infection.

  3. When possible, visit your local farmers market to get your meat. If a farmer’s market isn’t possible, look for organic pasture-raised options.

  4. Prioritize eating SMASH fish - they’re high in long-chain Omega-3 fatty acids. These healthy fats are easily absorbed, and are high in anti-inflammatory properties.

Holistic healing combines dietary changes, lifestyle changes, physical activity, tailored supplementation, stress management, and much more. All of which when done together help improve acne.
